I am Assistant Professor of Applied Philosophy at the Danish Institute for Advanced Study (DIAS) and the Department of Sports Science and Clinical Biomechanics at University of Southern Denmark. My research is on classical and contemporary phenomenology, focusing especially on applications of phenomenology in psychiatry, psychology, nursing, and qualitative research.
Before joining SDU, I was an Izaak Walton Killam Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Philosophy at Dalhousie University, a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and then Research Fellow in the Faculty of Philosophy at University of Oxford, and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Kent State University. I received my Ph.D. in philosophy from the University of South Florida in 2016 with a dissertation on phenomenology and psychiatry.
Growing up, I lived in coastal cities throughout the US Mainland and Hawaii (my father was in the Navy), eventually settling in Miami, Florida, where my parents were raised and most of my family still lives today. When I'm not teaching or writing, you can usually find me cooking up some Cuban or Mexican dishes, playing board games, or reading classic SciFi novels.
